Overview

Once you arrive, you will be taken on a guided tour (every hour between 9am and 4pm) beginning with a multi-sensory 3D movie detailing the site's history, followed by a detailed look at the living museum inside the Great House, stamp collection and exhibitions and surrounding picturesque landscape. There is also a gift shop and restaurant on site. Since its construction more than two centuries ago, Pedro St. James was used in a variety of ways – as a cotton plantation, courthouse, jail, Government Assembly and restaurant – before the Cayman Islands government purchased the property in 1996 and restored it to its 18th-century grandeur.
Today it stands as a dynamic piece of Caymanian heritage. Best known as the “birthplace of democracy in the Cayman Islands,” Pedro St. James was the venue for a meeting on December 5, 1831, it was decided to form the islands' first elected parliament. Later, on May 3, 1835, the proclamation ending slavery in the British Empire was read from the site.

Excellent tour conducted by the WORLD RENOUNED DOCENT OF THE STARS: TRISH
Warren A, 08-12-2022
Upon arrival with my high school friend, JB, we were greeted warmly by the staff. There is a self-guided and guided tours available. Since this was our first time at the residence, we opted for the guided tour. The school bus of arriving children went one way, we started the tour exploring the house. Trish, our guide extraordinaire, has incredible charm and knowledge of the estate. She has an Irish heritage (won't fly the Union Jack) and has given personal tours to Martha Stewart and King Charles III when he was the Prince of Wales. She is opinionated about the Royal Family, she will share pictures with you of her beautiful children and grandchildren. Trish also tells stories about her husband and has a lexicon library in her head. She has a vivid memory of the destruction Hurricane Ivan did to the estate a d Grand Cayman Island. If you tour the grounds, ask for Trish. Bring her some Virginia peanuts in the burlap bag. She will be your forever friend. As a person in her early 60's she can climb the steps faster than you and remind you of your Tortuga slowness for the rest of the tour. Yes, she is "saucy" but she loves her job and the people she encounters each and every day.

A guided tour with Miss Tricia

When you plan for this visit, ask to have Miss Tricia lead the tour. She will make it unforgettable. Her encyclopedic knowledge of the Cayman Islands, especially its history and the history of this house will make the visit all the more an experience.
Wonderful walk through local history!

We went to the Pedro St. James historical site based on the recommendation of a local. What a terrific recommendation! If you want to get a unique perspective of Cayman history and culture look no further than the guided tour. Stacy our tour guide is a legitimate Cayman national treasure with an incredible amount of local knowledge and history, including family history having a mother who was born and lived in the Pedro St. James building. We were fortunate to be alone on the tour in the off season, Stacy spent a considerable amount of time with us sharing his knowledge and history - we thoroughly enjoyed the time spent and highly recommend it!

We took a cab and when we walked up, the big tour had already started with the video, so we got a private tour of the old rebuilt homestead which was awesome because there were no crowds when looking at things or taking photos and we could ask one o. one questions with our tour guide. They have a little gift shop, small dining area that we did not go into and nice/clean restrooms. After the video, we walked back out to the lawn area, the old outdoor kitchen and through the old house a second time. Very relaxing and enjoyable leisurely taking it all in and thinking about how it was way back then.

Tricia, our tour guide, was fantastic. Thanks, Tricia, for sharing your love of Pedro St. James Castle and Cayman. The movie portion of the tour helped fill in the long history of the founding families. For anyone interested in local history visit Pedro St James - home of democracy and emancipation on Cayman. We booked the tour through Royal Caribbean. It was combined with the Turtle Center. We would have liked to spend more time with Tricia!
